A little something about me that won't go in the press kit: I am a self-deprecating, over-educated grammar-nerd. I love Tom Waits, obscure and arcane words I can use to confuse my enemies, rare books, whiskey poetry (see: Charles Bukowski), actual whiskey, being married, watching my 2-year-old sister learn to speak, playing the piano until my fingers bleed, full-contact knitting, my spandex superhero suit (despite its unforgiving nature in the hips), jumping out of planes (yes, really), cooking (no, not really - but can I substitute eating?), dreaming of flying machines, enormous dogs, Salman Rushdie, Rachmaninov and the smell of aging paper. I wish I lived in Salzburg, quit being so hard on myself, owned a Harley (and the guts to ride it), could speak fluent Italian (I'm working on it), and played professional poker. I consider among my influences (and heroes and mentors) Mr. Waits, Leonard Cohen, T.S. Eliot, Bruce Hornsby, Eric Whitacre, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Nelson Algren, Rilke, Tennyson and my father. Someday soon I will figure out how to use my new Mac and record the 12-ish new songs that have been sulking in the corner since I wrote 'em (ah, neglectful me). Visit my website at www.alyssahendrix.com or join my mailing list (send the word join to mailinglist@alyssahendrix.com) to keep up with the news. Oh - and I've started composing again. Mostly choral, for now. When I find 100 people crazy enough to sing my songs, I'll let you all know that too.
