The Biography of Lawrence Mitchell
Chop-A.K.A- Robinhood
Lawrence is a determined, dedicated, disciplined, and a passionate music lover known as Chop. Chop’s 23 years old, born April 21, 1984 in New Orleans, LA. The son of a minister I grow up in a poverty strict neighborhood. This is where I fail in love with hip hop, growing up listening to Mysitikal, Fifth Ward Webbie, and Lil Wayne. A mixture of those styles gave me my unique style.
I moved to Tennessee when my mother passed, that made me even more focused on seceding in the music business. Coming up I was picked on and criticized for the things I did. Music helped me release the stress off my chest. Hip Hop was natural to me at 12 years old. I was performing in rap battles, talent shows and talent searches. The music business isn’t as it seems on television.
My life has been a constant struggle and challenge to survive the streets. The streets made me a man; they thought me everything I know good and bad. In 2006, my best friend Chicken was murdered; this was a very stressful time, but I pulled through and it added more meaning to my music. I know he looks down on me and he is smiling, proud and happy with everything I have accomplished within this year.
I released a demo CD, which consist of 10 songs just to see if the town was feeling me. This CD set a fire under the town. I was recognized in the Leaf Chronicle Newspaper for my talent. I’ve paid my dues in the underground rap circuit, performing in Atlanta, New Orleans, Birmingham, and Nashville.
While I was lighting the town on fire, I bumped into Dayzon and Project of Ice Cold Entertainment. They were local promoters in Clarksville and Nashville, TN. They have promoted shows for big name artist in Hip Hop. They told me, “they loved my music” and “they wanted me to open up some concerts”. I opened concerts for B.G., Yo Gotti, and Lil Webbie to name a few.
I headline concerts in town and pack the clubs out. I have kids and teenagers approach me saying my rhymes. This let me know what God sent me here to rap.So every chance I get put on a show like it’s my last one. I want to be recognized and remembered for putting the town on my back every time I perform.
While proving myself in the community, I also proved myself to Dayzon and Project. They told me they were starting a record label called Ice Cold Music, LLC and they wanted me to work with them. The label is made up of Goon Squad, Tzee Baby, Alley Kat, and me Chops. The label has established us as artists and a force in the music business. Now we released a compilation album called Ghetto Platinum Vol.1. My single “Bout Dat” is on 12 different mix tapes from London, Germany and in the United States. The single top 15 on the Indies chart. As well as being played in 20 different record pools. The song has touched the air waves on 15 different online radio stations. In the future, Ice Cold Music LLC will release Ghetto Platinum Vol. 2 and my album “No Effort”.
