Q: What could Gregg Danton have in common with John Mayall, Hot Tuna, Branford Marsalis and even fellow west-coast Canadian Dianna Krall ?
A: The recent good fortune of having his music playlisted alongside these legends of Jazz and Blues, in countries all over the world. … (With a homemade 3 song demo c.d.!)
Dreaming in high school of being a musician is nothing new for young teens -now or in Gregg’s day -and it wasn’t long before he was payin dues and playing covers anywhere that he could.
The endless miles, playing six nights a week, would help hone his playing style while he vowed to cover tunes in his own way! The payoff was not monetary but opportunities arose along the way and the list of names that shared stage and studio began to grow.
Harlequin, Frank Soda, Idyll Eyes, Jim Foster, Goddo, Colin James, Jesse Colin Young (Youngbloods), Paul James, and the late Long John Baldry would all follow as musical highpoints during those cover band days.
Y2K would finally bring the songwriting inspiration that spawned the still in progress debut solo outing from this multi-instrumentalist/singer songwriter.
A recent offer to open for Edgar Winter brought Gregg together with his new first call guitar player Brian “Doubleslide” Cober of The Nationals (a legend in his own right!) and together they hope to work festivals and opening slots as well as record.
