The core members of Silas Wolf have been writing & playing music together since 2003, originally appearing as power-trio Happyending. The band gigged furiously around Seattle and the Northwest, honing their live chops and recording a couple of EPs and a full-length CD. Slowly but surely, Happyending built a stable of loyal and rabid fans in love with the bands mélange of original, moody riffs, sweet but powerful vocals and rocking live performances. Just as things were picking up steam, the fates intervened: Dual-lead vocalists Kevin Wittman (guitar/vocals) and Rosie D. Wittman (bass/vocals) relocated to San Francisco to honor some family obligations and make a little cash. The band continued to pursue their musical dreams by the Bay but missed the unique and familiar Seattle vibe, jumping at the chance to return home in early 2005. The brief hiatus in San Francisco proved to be a seminal moment for the band. Inspired by their Northwest exile, they returned to the Emerald City with one thing in mind: getting into a recording studio. The result was the Democracy, Whiskey, Sexy, the bands most emotional and complex work to date. Not the type of musicians to rest on their laurels, Kevin and Rosie tinkered with the lineup, adding the dynamic guitar sounds of Ernest Reckley and the pounding rhythms of drummer Michael Hacker intto the mix. The new configuration was both heavier and more complex than the previous, and deserved a new name -- Silas Wolf was born. Silas Wolfs first recording effort, Monster Stomp, is a perfect musical bookend to what the band began on Democracy, Whiskey, Sexy, garnering attention and acclaim from internet sites GarageBand.com, MySpace, mp3.com, Uberlabel and isound.com. The country-tinged murder ballad Emmanuel was nominated Track of the Day for May 25, 2006 on GarageBand.com's Americana charts. The politically charged Abracadaver has been featured on Internet radio stations, quickly becoming an anthem among Silas fans. The groups sonic influences range from Radiohead and Queens Of The Stone Age, to U2, Pixies, Johnny Cash and Motley Crue, but the band has crafted its own unique sound. Silas Wolf will continue to win over new crowds with its honest approach to rock and roll, dedication to original song-writing, dual male and female lead vocals, rock-solid rhythm section and dynamic live performances. In a world saturated by image and formula, Silas Wolf is a true original.
