I listen to soundxposure periodically at work when I find the silence of the office more than I can handle. On this particular numbingly silent Friday afternoon, I was also hating my job and every one I was forced to associate with because of it. I had soundxposure set to the acoustic station and was half paying attention to what was being piped into my earphones and half in my head planning my exit strategy from my current career. It was no wonder that in this particular mind set my ears perked up when it heard Nicotine Fingers’s “Song for my Wake” and caught the line “Not being around kills me.”
A little cheeky – yes. Slightly cliche’ – sure. But funny. And fitting for my pessimistic mood. Even in death we’ll still feel pain, loneliness. Can we ever hope to escape it? Will we ever be satisfied? Who knows. But I suppose if friends and family sing about my dissatisfaction with life at my wake, I’d be okay with it.
